The AI disruption has begun:
Humanity May Reach Singularity Within Just 7 Years, Trend Shows
I Created An AI Boyfriend. I Was Shocked By How I Felt After Just 3 Days With Him
Futurist predicts that we will achieve immortality within just 8 years
Elon Musk and other tech leaders call for pause in ‘out of control’ AI race
The latter article states, “In early tests and a company demo, the technology was shown drafting lawsuits, passing standardized exams and building a working website from a hand-drawn sketch.”
What that means is essentially… that’s that. Life as you knew it is a thing of the past.
Clueless Econ-101 types like to lecture technologists that jobs displaced by technology will be offset by new jobs created, citing conventional wisdom of the past, not realizing that every new job created will be filled by AI.
It won’t be long now. We’ve hit the event horizon of the so-called technological Singularity, a hypothetical event that I think is misunderstood by futurists who are unaware that the UFO phenomenon is the result of an extraterrestrial presence.
There will be some sort of event, but I don’t think we’ll get the Singularity that Kurzweil and others envision. Because we live in an occupied Galaxy, our Singularity won’t take place in a vacuum as futurists like Kurzweil expect. It’ll take place in the context of Galaxy occupied by a previous Singularity, or series of Singularities, successfully navigated by previous technological civilizations. It’s a statistical certainty.
It will be more of an Ascension than a Singularity- If we can get there. It will be like leveling up in a video game. Again- if we can get there.
Here’s a different take on the “Terminator” scenario:
Tech guru Jaron Lanier: ‘The danger isn’t that AI destroys us. It’s that it drives us insane’
If algorithm-driven social media are any indication- he’s probably onto something… unfortunately.
